I had the opportunity learn that there has been lots of drilling and searching for anything in the Topley area. Numerous companies have been looking for anything here over the past year and there have all come up empty. People have been looking for gold, silver and iron ore in this area as it appeared to be in between a number of seems here in the north. It appears after huge exploration back in the 60′s and now the past couple of years this area can officially be crossed of the list

There are some new developments in the preliminary exploration for gold here in Northern BC. Some groups are reviewing old claims that could have some development for future potential. Most of these old claims are from discoveroes in the 1930-1960′s. Right now with summer approaching the results of the winter research has produced soem interest in the development of gold. Over the next month I will be looking at some of this old claims and try to figure our if there is some potential. I will get this idea from talking to people in the field (miners), Ministry employees, farmers, ranchers, loggers and old timers. It is the spring start here in Northern BC after a particularly hard and long winter.

I have now jumped back into the drivers seat after a prolong absence. All my loyal readers (which is no one in particular) will now notice a new focus and direction. In order to look at mining here in Northern BC you need to look at the past. What areas have worked and what sections of the province have not. This blog will now focus on this aspects and bringing peoples ideas forward. The goal of this blog is how to get others to see what the future holds for mining in Northern BC

I am back

I am back with a renewed interest. I had other business that took my away from this blog and now i am back. What I have seen and could not write about has been a feeding frenzy for mining in Northern BC. The reason I could not write anything was dud the a potential conflict of interest which would have not been very good at all. I knew too much and putting things out there would have some how pointing back to me. Now I can write with full effort.

There is a lot happening right now and people are rather excited. I was recently in the community of Mackenzie lately and they have had all of their mills shut down die to the down turn in the forestry sector. It is more like a crash. The people there were not worried but rather optimistic with mining happening in the area. On the other hand business leaders from Fort St James were sounding the death march. They appeared ready to pack it in not looking for the long term in mining. Get ready for mining to take off here in the north. More news will happen on a daily basis

Double Drilling

News of interest is that some mining companies are working with drilling companies to drill for samples and energy. Rumour has it that some companies such as Hy-Tech (Smithers) and Falcon (Prince George) are working with some mining sites to look at geo-thermal energy for the sites as well as the normal drilling. What this means is as well as looking for minerals the companies are looking to export the geo-thermal energy as power. This could provide energy (heating and cooling) for the mine sites and maybe the possibility of exporting the energy to local towns and cities. BC Hydro is supposedly looking at this as an excellent source of energy in the north, since Alberta is looking at nuclear energy. More info will follow. Limstone near Prince George

Graymont is looking at opening up a limestone quarry near Prince George in the area of Giscome. They have the ability to mine limestone and currently they are one of the biggest players throughout North America. The are wanting to have a quarry that is over 200 hectares, would operate for over 20 years and wold employ about 30 people. They have applied to the provincial government for environmental approval which should take about 4 months and then they would hold community meetings.

My understanding of this is it will take about a year for the company to jump through the necessary hoops and the should start to begin operations by the summer of 2008. Being BC there will b some opposition from the community who have the NIMBY mentality, which is expected. I have a feeling that this project will either breeze through and be accepted or people will raise such a stink that the process will become slow and full of re tape. I feel that the process is a win-win for everyone and there should not be any problems. But we will have to see

Being a Public Company

Going public has advatages and disadvantages but it is not my business to explain them. What we are seeing now is cross listing of public companies. For example many companies operating mining operations here in Northern BC are that are listed on the TSX Venture are starting to cross list on the Pink Sheets www.pinksheets.com in the US. There are certain advantages to listing on the pink sheets with the biggest being access to US capital. Just listing on the the TSX Venture does not give you good access to the US $.

Cross listing is simple and easy as the Pink Sheets allow you to by pass all the regulations since you have covered them in Canada. It is a simple process that a number of mining companies have undertaken.

Even companies such as Northgate Minerals, Taseko, Novagold are listed on the TSX and AMEX.

Each stock exchange has a pecking order or acceptance level. In Canada the top down goes with the TSX, the TSX Venture and then the NEX. While in the US the level is the Dow Jones, Nasdaq, AMEX, OTCBB and then the Pink Sheets.

Sometimes companies have to start in the minor leagues (hockey talk) and work their way up once they have gotten a profile, a good market cap and some projects behind them

The Phone Call

Everyone says they can help you out and they will call you with some news or events. But they only seem to call you when they need something or they give you the impression something can happen. Many folks I have dealt with are great and promising the phone call but they never deliver. UPDATE The best way to communicate with is email. Drilling for Money

It seems that the drilling business is very busy lately. Companies such as Imperial Metals, Barker, Kenrich-Eskay and others are are drilling and sending out press releases on their drilling activity. This mean that they are all getting ready to release some news about finds? The rush to release drilling results can be looked upon as progress in the area. Whether this progress is for development and the finding of more minerals or trying to maintain the stock price is open for interpretation. My history tells me that the stock price needs stabilizing over the summer as well the the preparation of some possible big results in the fall of 2007. No one really releases any big news during the months of July and August due to the fact most people are in vacation mode. Keeping the press releases flowing during the summer are a god way to set thins up for the fall or even the spring. Get ready for some positive results soon, while other that come up short will still drill on

Mining Claims

There seems to be renewed interest from outside investors to purchasing old mining claims in areas that have a history of mining. For example the area of Barkerville has always had a history of gold. I have heard from some people outside the North who are buying old claims and they will be looking to activate this through exploration and development. Now bear in mind these people are not like you and I but people with means and money to make things happen. I was talking to a person from the USA who has reaches in many areas and just sold his mine in Africa for around $10 million (give or take as he did not fully tell me) and was looking for something in North America. He picked up some claims in Northern BC (near Smithers, Fort Nelson and Williams Lake) and was looking at doing the exploration as a private company, getting the results and then going public for each area on either the Canadian exchange (TSX Venture) or one of the US exchanges (Pink Sheets, OTCBB or AMEX). He had not decided yet but like the US exchange due to the fact that there is more money and Americans are willing to invest in something that they can use from a country in which they are familiar. He then asked me about getting more claims and wanted to just buy more. Doing the beginning work was not an option for him (filing the claim – basically doing the grunt work) but rather buying something done and ready to go. If he and others are really in this mindset then expect things to happen very quickly in the next 4 months. They want to buy things ready to go and they have the money to make it happen. Oh by the way if they feel a claim holder feels his claim is worth millions – they will just bypass and go elsewhere in the area.
